The current debate surrounding the Auckland Council’s Unitary Plan, which encompasses the City’s future growth, the quality of our built form, public realm, transport and housing affordability has gained a great deal of attention in the media and in the minds of Aucklanders. The Unitary Plan, when finally adopted, will set out the future framework for the city, providing the development rights and opportunities that will set the urban direction for next 30 to 50 years. These are critical issues that require active, strong and robust debate.

The Mayoral Debate will allow the public to hear the leading mayoral candidates’ detailed views and vision for the future of Auckland. The mayoral hopefuls, who hold diverse views on many issues, will have to answer five questions each. With less than two months left until Election Day this is the perfect opportunity for voters to size up the contenders.

Chaired by well-known journalist and political commentator Rod Oram and featuring mayoral candidates Len Brown, John Minto, John Palino and the Reverend Uesifili Unasa. The debate is free and open to the public.
